About The250
The experiment was to test out some theories around habits, skill development, leadership, working the stuff out in my head, and quite honestly, to see if I could commit to something on a grand, long-term scale. Here’s more about the purpose.
I had been writing blog articles in long form for a few years (the very first). Although I did enjoy writing them, they took me forever and weren’t very good. So I need to give myself constraints. Constraints and creativity are one of the theories being tested here everyday. Here are those constraints.
So, I wanted to see what happened to my discipline, my attention, and my voice.
I wanted the discipline. The kind you can’t fake. The kind that forces you to sometimes make uncomfortable decisions. The kind you earn by showing up when you don’t feel like it.
I wanted improvement. Writing gets better the way anything gets better. Doing it. Reps. Revisit. Do it again.
I wanted to practice what I preach. Leadership isn’t a speech. It’s a habit. If I’m going to talk about craft and consistency, I should live it.
And I wanted to be a writer. Not in theory, or even title, but in action. You are because you do. I don’t have a particular writing destination. Maybe there’s a book someday (I think I’d like to do that). Maybe there’s just this blog. Regardless, the skill of writing is a magical form of communication that one can apply to any and everything in their lives.
One more thing.
The audience is me. I’m writing to think. To learn. To remember. If you’re reading along, you’re welcome here. But you’re also a voyeur. You get to watch the work happen in public.
If something resonates, take it. If it doesn’t, leave it.
Either way, I’ll be here tomorrow.
What I Do
I write about what I’m thinking about, or what I want to think about. Sometimes I weave in personal stories or reflections. Sometimes I refactor a piece of advice for myself. Some of the posts are prescriptive. Some are diagnostic. Some are observational.
I use AI to help me with topics, research, and patterns, and to edit. All of the topics and words are mine, but AI is in here. I talk a lot about AI, so I also make sure I have a lot of experience with it.
What I Don’t Do
I don’t monetize this in any form. I don’t chase SEO or any algorithm. I’m not worried about building an email list (although sometimes I provide a resource that may require an email address to download).
