Recommended Podcasts

I’ve mentioned in some of my posts on time management that one of the revelations for me was using my time in the car and when running as MOVING FORWARD time, as opposed to mindless entertainment or killing time (which I like to refer to as waiting for death time).  Podcasts have become the most useful of tools for MOVING FORWARD time (in addition to audiobooks).  Here you will find a list of the podcasts to which I subscribe and listen to regularly.

Full Disclosure: I still do sometimes checkin on sports radio, or listen to music, and a couple of the podcasts found below are really more “entertainment” than anything else.  But I have replaced probably 95% of my previous time spent in the car and running with the podcasts found below and with audiobooks.

All links provided are direct to iTunes.  I realize that many or even most of you do not use iTunes, but there are so many different podcast apps and websites that I decided to pick one and stick with it.  So iTunes it is.  You can likely find these same podcasts on your favorite podcasting app by simple search.

Business and Network Marketing

Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders – Stanford University

Stanford brings in entrepreneurs of all kinds.  These are almost like TED talks, but strictly focused on the life and times of entrepreneurs.  Sometimes the talks are about the “how-to’s”, sometimes the “why”, sometimes just interesting stories.  For those that are entrepreneurial in nature, there is a wealth of information in these episodes.

Smart Passive Income – Pat Flynn

Pat is one of the pre-eminant authorities on how to build online businesses.  His podcast is a mix of interviews with other online business entrepreneurs and his own content.  His interviews are outstanding because he not only has guests that are famous in the internet business world, but he talks with many “regular” folks who although may not have the notoriety, are still making it happen and sharing their stories and wisdom with us.

EOFire – John Lee Dumas

JLD is all energy, and he puts forth a new podcast…every day!  That’s right every day.  He focuses exclusively on interviewing entrepreneurs, both online and traditional.  His format is almost the same for each interviewee so you get a great take from each guest on the same or similar questions.  Many stories of struggle and success.

Home Business Profits – Ray Higdon

Ray is one of, if not the, pre-eminent experts on not only network marketing, but coaching, teaching, marketing, and online business.  His episodes are short, to the point, and cover all of the topics ranging from mindset, to marriage, to online marketing, to nuts and bolts of network marketing and home business.

MLM Nation – Simon Chan

Simon’s podcast focuses on interviewing leaders in the network marketing business world.  His basic format is the same for every interview, so you getting each’s take on the same questions (and its duplicatable!), but he does a wonderful job during each discussion to pull the interesting and personalized information from his interviewees on their journey.

Your Virtual Upline – Bob Heilig

Bob, like Ray Higdon and Simon Chan, has turned success in network marketing into success in online and home business.  The focus of this podcast is training those in network marketing.  I love his style and delivery and every episode is gold.

For Fun

This American Life

The first podcast to which I listened regularly, and I still listen to every episode.  I love stories, and this is all about stories. This is a  once per week show, hosted by Ira Glass, and features a somewhat varietal approach to story telling and journalism.  Mostly brilliant.

RadioLab

A radio program and podcast that is hosted by Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, each hour-long show focuses on a topic of a scientific and philosophical nature, through stories, interviews, and thought experiments.  Who doesn’t love thought experiments?  Not only are the stories told usually very interesting, but every episode always an interesting approach to the sound.  They use sound and the soundtrack as part of the art and storytelling of the episode.

Serial

From he producers of The American Life, and hosted by State College resident, and TAL producer Sarah Koenig.  An interesting approach to radio storytelling whereby a single story is told across multiple episodes.  Much the same way many TV series are now fashioned.  The topics chosen by the Serial podcast are what set it apart.  Each topic is controversial, and the “right” answer is not necessarily known, even by the end.

The Moth

All stories, all the time.  Brought to you from planned “theme” evenings, or open-mike style.  The Moth is a formal story-telling venue in several cities, as well as a traveling circuit.  I love this likely because I see myself on stage someday telling stories.

Eddie Trunk Podcast

Eddie Trunk’s weekly interview with people from the world of hard rock and heavy metal.  I am indeed a fan of heavy metal, and have been my entire music-listening life.  And I am unashamed 🙂

Christianity and Faith

Defenders Podcast – Dr. William Lane Craig’s Sunday School Class on Christian Doctrine and Apologetics

I am an armchair apologist, and the subject is quite simply very interesting to me.  Not because I’m still searching, I just love the idea of being able to provide reasons to people of faith to help them feel secure.  And if you think all of the “smart guys” or “thinking people” are on the side of atheism…well, just give Dr. Craig a listen, he’ll blow you away.  I’ve been listening to Dr. Craig for 6 or 7 years.  You can find his web presence here.

Renewing Your Mind – Dr. RC Sproul’s Teaching Ministry

I first found Dr. Sproul’s ministry on the plain old radio about 15 years ago.   I even purchased audio tapes of his programs prior to when iPods and podcasts were even invented.  He touches on just about every topic of the Christian faith, including apologetics, and he, like Dr. Craig, brings a thinking man’s approach to the subject. You can find his web presence here.

First Presbyterian Church of Pottstown Weekly Sermon – Pastors Kerry Piddock-Lester, Carter Lester, and Jeff Fox-Kline (and occasional guests)

This is my home Church that I actually attend (and truth be told, I create the podcast), but regardless, I recommend all check it out.  The weekly message provided by this team is outstanding.  Here is our web presence.
