My friend has a saying, “Most adults are toddlers walking around in adult bodies.”
Once you see that, you can use it to your advantage in a number of ways.
The first is simply recognizing emotional responses for what they are — toddler temper tantrums. Yeah, they’re still uncomfortable (surprising, even), and if directed at you, hurtful. But seeing them as temper tantrums provides at least some perspective. A method to ride above.
The second is an understanding that adults still need their hands held. Go here. Do this. Oh, let me do that for you. I’m sorry, I forgot to continually tell you how special you are.
When you find an adult — a real, honest-to-goodness, responsible adult human — hire them. Quickly.
Spouse. Partner. Team member. Plumber. Friend. Neighbor.
Be on the lookout for adults.
